Are you thinking about scheduling a free pregnancy test at Birthright? Here’s how to prepare.

So you’ve scheduled yourself an appointment for a free pregnancy test. Or maybe you are coming for a walk-in appointment. Either way, one of the the first questions we will ask you is the date of your last period. If the pregnancy test is positive, the date of your last menstrual cycle will be used to determine how far along the pregnancy is – which will dictate what kind of options are available to you.

If the test is negative, any dates or information relating to your cycle you can provide us with may also help us determine whether we should schedule you for a follow up appointment to confirm the negative result.

For example, a test taken before a missed period may produce a false-negative result. This is because your body may not have enough of the HCG pregnancy hormone yet for the test to detect. According to the Mayo Clinic, a pregnancy test taken after the first day of a missed period will help ensure the most accurate results.

However, we know it can be hard to wait that long for an answer! Feel free to schedule a free pregnancy test with us before your missed period. If needed we will schedule you for a re-test the following week.
